Start with what matters

This is someone’s home.
And someone’s next chapter.

The right plan makes room for the older adult’s wishes, the family’s concerns, and the realities of timing. We begin by listening.

  • You may be planning ahead for a future move.
  • A change in care needs may be creating new decisions.
  • The house or belongings may be holding up a transition.
  • You may be helping a parent from another city.

The house & belongings

A practical plan for
a home full of memories.

Some families need to sell promptly. Others have time to prepare. The plan should fit your family’s timing and the condition of the home.

Kevin can help you consider the sale alongside the care transition, then coordinate the resources needed for the property and the move.

Discuss the home and timeline

Pieces we can help organize

  • A home-sale plan and preparation priorities
  • Sorting what to keep, share, sell, or donate
  • Connections to downsizing and moving resources
  • Estate-sale, donation, and cleanout resources
  • Timing around the move into the chosen setting

Real estate services are provided by Kevin Donahue, REALTOR®, through eXp Realty LLC.

Paying for the transition

Bring the financial questions
into the plan early.

We help you organize the questions to ask, understand how a potential home sale fits the timeline, and connect with appropriate financial, legal, or benefits professionals.

Oregon resources for paying for care

Useful questions to bring to your advisors

  • What is the expected monthly cost and what does it include?
  • How will move-in costs and the home-sale timeline align?
  • Which benefits or insurance questions need specialist review?
  • Who has authority to make property and financial decisions?

Eligibility, coverage, and legal or financial decisions are reviewed with the relevant qualified professionals.

Common starting questions

A few things families ask.

Do we need to know where our parent is moving before we call?

No. You can start while you’re still sorting through options. We can help organize the questions and connect you with care and housing resources. The older adult, family, and care team guide decisions about the appropriate setting.

What if the house is full of belongings?

That is a common part of a transition. We can help organize the sequence for sorting, downsizing, donations, estate-sale resources, and cleanout—then fit those tasks around the home and moving timeline.

Can we begin if our parent already lives in senior housing?

Yes. A move between care settings can bring a new set of timing, belongings, and housing questions. Tell Kevin what is changing and which pieces your family needs help coordinating.

Is a home sale required before we start?

No. You can begin with the housing and care decision. When a home sale is part of the plan, we discuss real estate representation and compensation separately.

What should we have ready for the first conversation?

A general location, the timing you’re working toward, and the decisions that feel most pressing are enough to begin. You do not need a complete plan.

A way forward, together

You don’t need all the answers to take the first step.

Tell Kevin where your family is today. Together, we can identify what needs attention first.
